Petitcodiac Mennonite Church

The invitation

The summer of 2003 marks the 25th anniversary of the Petitcodiac Mennonite Church. We are inviting you to join us for times of Remembering, Rejoicing and Renewal. We are choosing to spread the celebration over several months, to enable more of you to join us for at least some of the events. If you can join us for all the events, that's even better.

  1. The Remembering focused on the weekend of June 14/15 when Mark and Mary Hurst returned from Australia for a visit and helped us by facilitating the process of remembering. (Photos of that weekend.  Mark's sermon "Remember the Future")

  2. We will rejoice the weekend of July 26/27 with reflections by some of our church leaders. Judi Snowdon is writing a special piece of music which be performed at that time. Mary Mae Schwartzentruber from MCEC will joining us for the Sunday Worship service and potluck. An open house Sunday afternoon will complete the weekend. (Mark's Photos of the weekend.  Mary Mae's Sermon Joy: Becoming Who We Are!  and Earl's Reflections)

  3. August 15 - 17 will feature a weekend of family camping at Fundy Park, combining our Sunday School picnic and an outdoor worship service Sunday. (Don's photos of Herring Cove)

  4. Oct. 18/19 will combine times of Thanksgiving and the renewal of our commitment for the coming years. Pauline Steinmann will challenge us to face the future with commitment and energy. She and Martha Burka will lead us in a "dreaming of the future" session.   (Photos of the weekend and Pauline's sermon Stones that live and move... Renewal for the Future.)

  5. The publication of a booklet in Dec. will end our year of celebration. The booklet will chronicle our 25 years, include the various greetings we receive during the year, any presentations made at the various events, a copy of the timeline chart that will be developed during the year and a copy the dreams of the future.

  6. As a lasting memorial of the year we will plant 25 trees along the property beside the highway. As each tree is planted in Petitcodiac, funds will sent to MCC to plant a tree in Somalia as part of their "Trees for Life" Individuals, families and groups are being invited to contribute $45 towards the cost of the project. This amount will plant a tree in Petitcodiac and another in Somalia. (An information sheet is available and a tax receipt will be issued.)

Finally we would ask that you continue to keep the congregation in prayer - prayers of thanksgiving for God's blessings to us during the past 25 years and intercession for the future.
