Dear friends at La Iglesia Menonita de Sinai, Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! We, the Petitcodiac Mennonite Church in New Brunswick, Canada, are delighted to be teamed with you, our sister church in Bogota. Our commitment to support you in prayer and other ways stems from the open letter (addressed on Peace Sunday, November 11, 2001) sent from the Mennonite Church in Colombia to Mennonite Churches in Canada and the United States, pleading us to take notice of the violence and injustice in Colombia. We must confess that many of our congregation had not been aware of the desperate situation. On that Peace Sunday, I was worship leader and felt Spirit moved to keep the Mennonite Churches in Colombia in my prayers. Later, when our congregation prayerfully considered becoming a sister church, our Pastor, Werner De Jong, asked if I and/or my husband Peter would be willing to be coordinator(s)--to communicate with, and advocate on behalf of, a sister church in Colombia-- both Peter and I felt Spirit led to accept this role. I am writing in English, and Siegelinde De Jong (Werner's mother) is translating this into Spanish. Please let us know if this is satisfactory to you, or how you would suggest we communicate with you. To help us to understand your situation we have a few questions:
Also, did you receive any information about our church? Please feel free to ask any questions of us you may wish We look forward to developing a relationship with you--our sister church! |
